Research and practice in interactive real-time 3D graphics and allied screen and network technologies is a continuation of Nigel’s professional, international experience in the area of 3D animation, digital video graphics, interactive digital media, and digital art practice. Since 2019 Nigel has been exploring new, innovative and creative endeavors in Artificial Intelligence (Ai)

Current Areas of Research (Digital)

Nigel’s current research and practice explores intersections between nature, science, technology and society through digital art practice and theoretical research in Geo-locative media and augmented reality (AR) and Ai.

Geo-Locative Media
Augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR)
Digital art practice
Ai
Hyper-localised virtual sculpture/installation
Mobile screen
Environmental and emergent systems
Very large scale AR

Innovations in Geo-spatial digital technologies are transforming the way we develop and consume digital media content. Where you are – and increasingly who you are with * – now become the interface to online interactions and experiences. Through the lens of the mobile camera and screen, his research brings spatialized transmedia experiences to a localized audience, uncovering place, space and story and the social connections from which they arise.

Employing non-invasive ephemeral interventions in the environment, hyper-localised ‘virtual installations’ are designed to engage the public with ideas and concepts related to environmental systems at varying layers, presenting new public space possibilities through mass-participatory mixed reality experiences on mobile devices.

Strongly influenced by developments in new media technologies and their uptake within the public sphere, this research operates via trans-disciplinary collaborations internationally working alongside scientists, technologists, industry partners, researchers, artists and designers.
